How do I transfer a domain to Hostko

The process for transferring a domain in to Hostko is different depending on the domain’s extension.

Transfering .com .net .org .biz .info .us and other domains

.com .org .net and other non-country-specific domains are called gTLDs (generic Top Level Domains).

Transferring gTLDs into Hostko requires that several steps are completed correctly, otherwise, the transfer will fail. Please read this guide carefully to avoid problems.

The transfer of your domain may fail if any of the following apply:
– the domain has been registered for less than (or previously transferred within) 60 days
– the domain’s registrant contact first name, last name, organisation or email address have been changed within the last 60 days.
These are not terms of Hostko, they are defined by ICANN – external link opens in a new window.

Domain transfers effectively register the domain for a further year and add 1 year onto your expiry date, so you don’t lose any time you have paid for. There is one exception to this rule: If the domain was recently reactivated from an expired state, you will not get a year added to the expiry date. So you’ll need to pay any expiration fee and then the appropriate renewal fee.

Preparing your domain for transfer away from the existing registrar.

The first thing to do is to log into your existing domain registrar’s control panel, and prepare your domain for transfer. These are the steps you must complete:

  1. Ensure that the domain is UNLOCKED
  2. Obtain the EPP code (also sometimes called the authorisation code or transfer key)
  3. Check the domains contacts and ensure that you are able to receive an email at the Administrative Contact email address for the domain. If you change the contact details the domain may be locked for 60 days – see the warning above. If this happens you will not be able to complete the transfer until after that time.
  4. Ensure any domain privacy service is turned off – this could cause emails not be received by the Administrative contact

If any of the above steps are not completed, the transfer cannot complete.
